
The Data Science in-person Master’s program at the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering rates among the nation’s best and most affordable according to Fortune Magazine rankings for 2025.
Fortune ranked the Luddy School No. 6 nationally for best in-person Master’s program and No. 22 for most affordable.
The rankings were based on eight critical data points with an emphasis on graduation and one-year retention rates.
“I’m incredibly proud that the IULuddy School has been recognized by Fortune magazine as offering one of the nation’s best and most affordable in-person master’s programs,” said Haixu Tang, Director of Data Science Academic Programs and a professor of Informatics and Computing.
“This honor confirms that Luddy delivers extraordinary value by pairing innovative, interdisciplinary curricula with world-class faculty and personalized learning experiences in Data Science. Our graduates emerge with both the theoretical grounding and hands-on expertise they need to excel, reflecting the overall excellence and long-term value of a Luddy education.
“I am particularly pleased to note that the robust capstone options, such as the Faculty Assistance in Data Science (FADS) program, was highlighted in Fortune magazine’s recommendation, which allow students to apply their newly acquired skills in practical, real-world settings.”
Fortune regularly publishes ranked lists that include ranking companies by revenue as well as investor guides.
Connor Goff, Luddy assistant director of graduate student recruitment, said U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show data scientists rank No. 4 among the fastest growing occupations.
“Alongside the extraordinary faculty at Luddy collaborating in world-changing interdisciplinary research, Luddy is also uniquely equipped to help our students get the best first step into this influential field,” Goff said.
He added that Luddy’s office of career services feature dedicated professionals who understand the STEM world and technical interviewing, and can even assist in preparing for salary negotiations.
